Hickory Street Bar and Grill, 1992
located on the corner of 8th and Congress, downtown Austin
Austin, TX
Bejat began her instruction here on these walls with Austin Community College professor, Doug Jaques. Every student appeared as characters in the mural, one of which is Bejat sat in the grass amongst the arches having a picnic with another student and the owner of the Hickory Street Bar and Grill. The wall is odd shaped and precariously positioned on the hill of 8th Street leading to Congress Avenue. Therefor, the initial design for the wall was quite inventive and creates a unique prespespective eight blocks down from the Capitol of Texas. This mural took one semester with some follow up and protective varnish. After many years this mural has become a landmark icon in Austin featured in various publications like local papers and brochures.
