Pelican in Bloom

2001

Dickinson, TX

Representing native flora and pollinators of the Bay Area, Bejat depicted sunflowers, Mexican hat, brown-eyed susan, Texas paintbrush, bluebonnets, Indian blanket, and blue-eyed grass as the flora. Enlarging the images so that the are visible at a distance even the insects are noticeable, like the monarch, zebra and gulf fritillary butterflies in all stages of development. Once primed and drawn out on the form, Bejat was asked to paint at the annual Wheels and Keels event held at Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, TX in order to promote Seabrook's Pelican Path Project.
